The Best Early Morning Workouts You Might Actually Do

I’m not sure about you, but at night before I go to bed, I usually say to myself that I am going to get up early the next morning and get a workout in before I go to work. I literally tell myself that at least five days a week. Want to know how many mornings I actually follow through on it? On average, about one morning a week.

It’s difficult to get motivated at six in the morning. Driving to the gym and lifting a bunch of heavy weights or trying to run a couple miles on the treadmill with sleep still in your eyes is near impossible. Then I learned through my own failure that my early morning workouts should be completely different than the norm. If they were dissimilar, I actually did my early morning workout. But, of course, not five times a week. Usually about three. It is still better than one though! Below are a few early morning workout ideas that will have you getting out of your nice comfy bed and working up a sweat.

Go for a Run with Your Dog

I learned a lot of things running at six in the morning around my neighbourhood with my dog. For one thing, there is much less traffic to dodge. Another reason I liked it was because it saved me from having to drive to the gym. Also, it was a treat for my dog. He loves to run the neighbourhood. When my dog is happy, then I am happy. One more thing I also learned, when I take my dog it causes him to poop about five times during our run. And if you run out of little baggies to pick it up, usually the owner of the yard is still asleep.

An Early Morning Swim

I am not the best swimmer in the world. In fact, when I was younger I nearly drowned and had to be rescued by a stranger. But that doesn’t keep me from enjoying the water. It is a bit crazy, though, how many senior citizens love to swim that early in the morning. They take their lap swimming quite serious. I just try to stay out of their way and doggy paddle in the pool from side to side. It really is a good cardio workout.

Train with an Exercise Video

I am much too cheap to buy those exercise videos that are always running infomercials on television. Most of the ones that I have seen require a bit too much dancing for my liking. I want to work up a sweat, not imitate Patrick Swayze from Dirty Dancing. What I do instead is I search YouTube the night before for a free downloaded video that I can workout with. I only train with the ones that don’t require weights or any special items. Most of them are all about thirty-minute workouts that have you jumping (sometimes literally) from one exercise to the next. I like that I can do it in front of my own television in the basement. All three of these early morning workouts are unique enough to get me out of bed in the morning. Hopefully, they will work for you, too
